Venezuela defeated Canada in five sets 

MEXICALI, Baja California, June 6, 2008.- Venezuela defeated Canada in five sets during a 5-to-8 qualification round match of th Women’s Pan American Cup. The score of the seesaw contest was 25-17, 25-16, 25-17, 14-25, 15-9.

Desiree Glod was the offensive star leading four Venezuelans in double figures with 19 points. Yessica Paz, Jayce Andrade and Aleoscar Blanco contributed 15, 14 and 12 points.

Sherline Holness, who had seven blocks, led Canada with 16 points, while Tiffany Dodds, Emily Cordonier and Tammy Mahon added 15, 12 and 11 respectively.

“We made some adjustments since we studied our last match against them,” said Jayce Andrade, the Venezuelan captain. “They had some up and downs and we took advantage of those circumstances.”

“I don’t think that playing five sets yesterday affected us,” said Canadian Tammy Mahon. “We came here prepared for that. I think Venezuela played better than us.”
